Default How to replace stock 2011 radio and keep Sync

What all do I need to switch to an aftermarket receiver? Also what faceplates, stereos (under $400), and conversion-harness' do you recommend? I have a 2011 XLT w/ Sync, no Sony or bells/whistles. I want to keep Sync and steering controls.

Thanks in advance

I think if you fill in the specifics at Crutchfield, you'll get a good start.

Yup...I hate Crutchfield too...but it's a starting point for a noob. Rather than searching all the threads here on the subject.

You need a dash kit
You need an HU. You can get a nice Kenwood or Pioneer for $400 or less
You need a PAC MS-FRD1 wiring harness to retain SYNC and an Axxess ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Adapter (PAC also makes one but I like Axxess csuse it is easier to program)

You can get them all at Amazon

I also have a 2011 XLT with sync and no nav or sony.

You could use:

iDatalink wiring harness ADS-HRN-RR-F01
iDatalink integration adapter ADS-MRR-Maestro

Depending on which HU you pick you get different extra features. I used a Kenwood DDX9703s. Sync audio is processed through the HU including bluetooth, media player and phone. This model of Kenwood also displays vehicle information like tire pressure and two screens with configurable gauges.

The iDatalink harness is wired to the Kenwood harness and everything else is plug and play. The Maestro is programmed via USB before it is installed.
