Default How to replace sony subwoofer only

Did some reading and didn't quite find my answer. I'm not looking for anything mind blowing or fancy. I would just like to replace that weak sub with my jl 10w3 without changing the stock HU. have the Sony system w/o nav. I have installed aftermarket HU and amps in the past but never anything with stock equipment. Is there a simple and cost effective way?

Yup, the sub amp is on the stock sub box. Yank it out and put in a new sub, box, and amp.

The Sony sub signal is still RCA when it goes into the sub amp. You may need to set up a relay since the turn on is probably only 5V instead of 12.

Awesome. Well I guess I would probably just run a power wire to the battery instead of messing with the 5v bc I've read somewhere that they handsome problems with running a relay. So the remote wire and everythin is there? Just a matter of swapping it out with an after market sub, box, and amp? This sounds too good to be true lol

And also, since the stock HU has very little settings, can I run a sub control **** off of any amp? I'm using a jl monoblock if that matters

I meant the remote/turn-on is only 5v so you'll want to use it to turn on a relay to supply a 12V remote current.

Most sub amps can be controlled by a matching sub control ****, you'll want to get it from the amp manufacturer.

Unless you get a very low power setup, the stock power will not be sufficient. Not sure of guage, but you've only got a 20 amp fuse on the line.

Ok makes sense. Just one more question... I think lol. I'm not exactly an audiophile, just know the basic aftermarket sub installation so my question is about the 5v to 12v. Can you explain what I'd need to do to make it work in a little detail? I REALLY appreciate your help btw.

A relay is basically a small and inexpensive electronic switch. You can pick one up at RadioShack for a couple bucks. It uses the 5v turn on from the truck to switch a 12v circuit on.
