How good is Memphis gear?
Went to a couple local audio shops today to pick their brains about a setup for my 12 XLT. One place, the big local car audio place, was nuckin futs, told em I was looking to replace my 4 door speakers, two ten inch subs under rear seat, box, and amp and no more then about $1k for that installed. They then proceeded to show me a Rockford Fosgate setup which would have been $2300 out the door.... I asked if he had heard what I said to begin with....then left.
But another shop, smaller, more of a mom and pop audio place, suggested a Memphis setup when I told him what I was looking for. Can get a MR500 500 wat amp, two Power Reference 10 inch subs, 4 of the Power Reference 5X7 speakers, underseat box, install and whatnot for shade under $1k. Plus if bought and installed there, has lifetime warranty on the speakers including blowing which seemed pretty good.
Couple friends said Memphis stuff was pretty good, but wanted to see if they were a fairly well regarded brand. Not looking for audiophile stuff but wont want Best Buy type stuff either if that makes sense.
Read few of the reviews online but most of em were smoking crack or something when they wrote em seems like. lol
From what I saw though, seems Memphis and JL is about comparable in quality as I was looking at Nick's setup with the JL C2570X speakers and JL10WOV3-4 woofers and price seems about same.

Lifetime warranty on the door speakers, not the subs. Memphis is a GREAT product. I worked at a shop selling and installing the stuff for about 10 years. Theyy have also been around FOREVER! Started out as Fultron, the Arthur Fulmer Company. Make sure you keep up with your receipts for warranty issues. We used to be able to warranty anything out, but nearing the end of my tenure in car audio it was becoming more difficult. I can only assume this has to do with the internet presence. Memphis wants to make sure you're purchasing from an authorized dealer!

+1 on Memphis being a step up from the "best buy brands". They definitely are a generally well regarded company.
I would opt for 6.5" component setup over ovals though. You'll get a more "full" sound from a circular speaker along with more options.

I bleed Memphis,
3 12" m3 all on a Memphis mono 1000 watt rms amp and coaxial 6.5 inch door speakers on a Memphis 4 channel amp made my old SHO scream.
I still have it all, just need to find the time to get it in the truck.
But I think they make a great product, with all of my buddy's hifonics amps cutting out and bs, my Memphis never let me down.
Great stuff IMO
