Default Help with subs | Hitting and Missing

So about a month or two ago I got my sub setup installed, 2 JL10W0v3 in a fox box with a JL 250/1 amp. They've run fine since the day they were installed but recently they seem to cut out and "give up" on some notes in some songs. And today they decided to just quit for a few minutes and then come on for a few minutes. Any ideas?? They're wired to just the door speaker and controlled with the factory head unit's sound menu....

I would check the speaker cables that connect to the subs inside the box. I had a loose one inside a box one time and the vibrations of the box would make it cut in and out at random times.

what he said, sounds like a bad connection....check every where, also make sure you have a good ground and that the amp isn't being run to hard.

Well, first off you have those subs VASTLY under powered. If you have them wired in parallel then you're giving each sub 125 watts (RMS is 300). If you wired them in series, well you might be giving them 50 watts each. That amp is made to power 1 sub, not the 2 that you have.

175 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (250 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms) per JL website.
Although the subs can handle more power I don't see where 250 would cause them to cut out

He has 2 subs, so each sub is only getting half of those numbers (depending on if wired in series or parallel).

How was the gain set on the amp? If the subs turn off and come back on after a few seconds your amp is probably going into protect because the gain is set too high. Millions of ways to set gains if you google it, each person has their own preferred way. You should be able to test this by playing a song you know cuts out and watching the protect light on the amp as it happen. Also unless you throw a 500 watt rms amp on it don't let anyone talk you into a slightly bigger amp, won't be worth the money wasted in output.

Have you checked the spot where you connected to the door speaker? That would be the starting point.

If the subs don't seem to be hitting certain notes, it could be the limit of the speakers (this is JL's low end line, and/or you are running out of power. The lower the notes, the more power needed.
