Default Help pick new subs!

I'm currently running 2 rockford fostgate R1 12's on an old Alpine M-350 amp. They hit pretty good now but I'm just looking for more! I was thinking about 2 rockford fostgate P3's and a R1200-1d amp. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great!

Currently I am running the R1's in a sealed box and have them sitting on the rear seat of my 2008 scab. My plan for the P3's is to run a ported box and just place them on the seats again. Passenger space in the rear is not a concern.

Personally I would look into Fi Car Audi SSDs, Sundown SA line, DC Audio level 3 line, Soundqubed HDS200, or if you have to stick with name brands Alpines new Type R's look promising and affordable. Personally besides their amps I've never been a Rockford Fan, just too high priced for what you get with way better options for cheaper. As for amps plenty of options but I've had good luck with DC and Soundqubed amps. The Soundqubed 1200 can be had brand new for $269. And all of the subs I mentioned, if running 2 12" versions I would do a 3.5-4 cubic foot box after displacements with a minimum of 50 inches of port area.

Just looked up the Rockford stuff you mentioned. You can have a whole Soundqubed setup for cheaper than that. Make sure you do the big 3 under the hood.

Love my entry level Sundown E-series 8's. In a ported box off 550w they bang. Sounds like you are wanting more bass than that though. SA line for sure. Theres a reason why they get so much hype on the forums, i wasnt a believer until i got my set. You won't be disappointed

Would a couple of SA-12 D2's be a better option? Also should I run it ported or sealed? I listen to all kinds of music so I want it tight and crisp but also want the deep deep lows.

If you want Tight Clean Punchy bass, go Sealed! If you want more of a Boomy, rattle your head bass, go Ported!

I prefer Sealed, but thats me!

I guess the biggest question is what are you capable of building? Do you know how to actually build a box? Do you know how to tune a box and pick port area? If you can build one but don't know how to design one thats not a big deal. I'm sure someone including myself could throw something together easily enough. Also the Dual 2s are not what you want. Most amps capable of 1,000+ watts put out that power at 1ohm. If running two subwoofers with dual voice coils you want dual 4ohm subs to get a 1ohm load. All I can tell you is if you want a ported box there is not ANYONE who sells premade boxes that are worth much. You can make a $40 speaker in a good box blow away a $500 speaker in a crappy box. Also most of the subs I mentioned are meant to be ran in ported boxes and won't do well in sealed. A ported sub can sound great and play a wide range of frequencies, it just depends on the tuning, port size, and vehicle its in. I do prefer sealed for country and metal but nothing beats a 30 something tuned box for hip hop.

I do have a local audio shop that could build me a good box.
