The Alpine has a lower power output but is easier to install if your radio circuit has a 15A or greater fuse. If so you can splice the power wire from the factory radio and run the Alpine off the same power feed. The clarion requires you to run a power cable from your battery. The better method is to always run a separate power feed from the battery. You'd need to put a inline fuse in if you did this with the Alpine. The Clarion already has one.

Not sure if this is the thread were I suggested doing the amp before the speakers, but that's not working for me anymore. Those factory speakers put out a LOT of bass with just the amp. But only up to a point: Loud reggae during friday morning commute = blown speaker.

I will probably run a separate power wire, I'll just run it along side of my sub wire and wrap them together with friction tape, instead of trying to splice in.

The Alpine has a 15a fuse sticking out the side of it already. So do I still need to add an inline fuse too?

Actually just read the answer to my question on the install intsructions.
Battery Lead (Yellow)
There are two options:
a. Connect battery lead to OEM radio fused circuit
The OEM radio circuit has a fuse to protect your
vehicle’s electrical system in case of a short circuit. Do
not connect the battery lead to the OEM radio circuit if
the fuse rating is less than 15A.
b. Connect battery lead directly to BATT +
Be sure to add a 15A fuse (sold separately) as close as
possible to the battery’s (+) terminal.

Blue wire for remote turn on to fuse 23. Buy a MICRO add-a-fuse thing. You may have to search around or buy one from amazon - they don't seem to be widely available as they are the new size.
According to Alpine
The KTP-445U comes equipped with the RCA and Auto-Sensing-Speaker level connectors
I'm thinking I may not need to run the blue wire to #23 like I did with my sub...?

I'm not looking so much for just loudness, but whichever one will give me a fuller, more rich sound. I doubt anybody has had both to be able to compare, but if you guys can give me a little more insight on each's sound quality, I would be mucho grateful! And also assuming the Parrot harness will work just as well with the Apline as with the Clarion? Thanks! Well.... after all that, I just went ahead and pulled the trigger on the Alpine, after reading most of the reviews for both on Amazon.

Amps just amplify the sound already coming from head unit.

If you want more rich and fuller sound you will need a new head unit or sound processor inline between HU and amps.

Don't rely on signal sensing. Run the wire to the fuse box

Terry,

Please please dont run an aftermarket amp without upgrading your door speakers. Put some cheaper, but good quality, kickers in my BILs truck (they were $60) and they made a huge difference. Amping crappy factory speakers is not a good idea.

Also, instead of using a harness to intercept your facory hu outs, you can use an audiocontrol line converter > rca outs and just tap into your speakers wires. Bypasses doing anything behind the dash. Lemmee know if you want more info.

1st... I have been looking at replacement speakers also, they will just have to wait a little longer. These Polks are what I'm trending toward so far...

2nd... I already have the Alpine amp and parrot harness, and it all seems pretty straight forward, especially being able to stash it behind the dash with the HU. I haven't started working on it yet so I'm still up for new ideas I suppose, but I don't know the first thing about converters (is that what LOC means?). What do they do and just what benefit would it provide?

3rd... I have a Kicker Hideaway already tapped into my rear speaker wires, would that affect anything, and/or would I have to do something with that again (rewire with converter, etc)?

4th... My wife already thinks I'm crazy for even adding an amp after I put in the sub, so she doesn't even know that I already got the Alpine amp and harness, and she would really blow her top if she knows I'm looking at speakers now too, and then add more dollars for something else that I don't even know why I need it... get the picture?

But I'm all ears! Talk me into it, tell me what I need to know... I'm listening.
