Question Factory stereo enough for these Kenwoods?

I'm looking to eventually replace my factory speakers to get some better sound. Stock speakers suck. I'm not looking to add a subwoofer or anything, just some door speakers. I'm also not looking to replace the stereo. At least not now.

I was looking at these on Crutchfield: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KFC6...PS.html?tp=105

Now, I was trying to take a look around specs and such but I'm not a speaker guy. Here's my question:

Would the factor stereo provide enough power for these speakers? Or would I need to get an amp as well?

Also, I'd be looking to replace both the front and rear speakers in my 2010 SCrew.

Thanks for any input/feedback!

Yes, coax can work with HU, but is you want a better upgrade get a small external amp, but that won't be a big upgrade to your system, maybe a little better quality.

If you want those speakers and want to keep thing simple, add a small 4ch amp.

The amp will make about as much difference as the new speakers. Ample power is important for good sound. You don't need much power, 25w per channel from an external amp would be plenty. The claimed 25w from a "high-powered" head unit isn't nearly the same.

Thanks for the replies all. Sounds like it would likely make sense to invest in a 50x4 amp or something similar. May get the speakers 1st and the amp later. If I do Ill update w/ how it went.

These are more expensive, but I'm looking at possibly replacing my door speakers with these Infinity Kappa's.

I will let you know if I do it in the near future.

Lokki,

Thanks for the post. If you do end up getting those Infinitis and install them I'd love to hear your feedback on how they sound with the factory stereo. Or if you end up with an amp and how you went about the install.

Will do. I'm trying to avoid having to use an amp. It just makes me sick when I get in my wife's 09 Expedition. Her stereo sounds sooooo much better.

Even a cheap $50 used amp will make a huge difference (even with the factory speakers). Personally I'd just amp the front doors.

Yup, the amp is definitely needed.

I decided not to go with the Inifinitys as I got impatient. I was at Best Buy this weekend and they had these Pioneers marked down to $48. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130TSA6...72R.html?tp=92

I bought them and put them in the front doors. It didn't make a whole lot of difference. So I went back to Best Buy and picked up these Kickers. http://www.crutchfield.com/s_2068KS6...680.html?tp=92 I put the Kickers in the back doors. The sound has improved, but not by very much, considering that I put $150 into the 2 pairs, I would've liked to have gotten more out of them. I think the Head Unit is REALLY lacking in power.

I'll probably add an amp in the near future.

Hopefully this helps you out some, Darkmoone.

It sure does.

Thanks for keeping me up to date. If you end up getting an amp installed I'd love to hear if that makes a huge difference.

Although updating the speakers is still on my list of mods, I think I'm gonna Line-X my bed first which means these will be put on hold for a bit.
