No to change out your stock headunit should be fairly easy to do, if your in love with the stock headunit keep it, there are other options then a loc for using amps with factory headunit, JL has a module called a cleansweep, rs has a product called a 360.2...lots of options out there

I have heard of the JL audio clean sweep before, is it a good product?

The other option out there would be an Alpine PXE-H660. From what I hear they work really well, but they are newer on the market so not tons of reviews yet. I'm gonna try one in my 2011 when it finally get's delivered.
