burning smell help
this is weird the last few days when ive had the volume up maybe half to 3/4 of the way up, ive been smelling a burning plastic/wood smell. my sub boxes are ported and push plenty of air out of the box im pretty sure thats where the smells coming from.
im not cranking my system to the max or stressing the subs.
im running top grade 4 guage ground and power to the amp and 10guage speaker wire to the subs.
the subs are being run at 2ohms and together they are 800watt rms.
my hifonics amp pushes 900watts rms at 2ohms so i should be in the ideal range right. could the extra 100watts be causing this???
the amp isnt running hot and im not melting any fuses or wires.
my only thought was when the subs are cranking it could be heating up the air in the box and i could be smelling the wood glue getting hot?
im out of ideas please help.
by the way everything works great just the smell is weird.

Are you running a sub sonic filter? Have your subs been broken in? Is the box designed for your subs?
If you are running a sub sonic filter, try to turn it up a little more, anything below the tuning of the port=no more cone control, your subs will flutter.
If your subs have not been broken in, the suspension may be too stiff.
If the box is not build for your subs, the box will not maintain cone control.
Also try to dial back your bass boost or gains.
