Well the sealed box my kicker is in is .85 cu feet I believe, its min should be 1 cu feet. Doesn't seem far off would it be worth building a new box?

Did you account for the displacement of the sub as well?

Im thinking the box is really about .75 with the sub. I would build a box that is the proper size but thats me.

Here are some WinIsd models using the Kicker recommend box sizes.

First is gain which shows the various roll offs across the fq bands.

Second is SPL which equates to loudness across the fg bands.

Third is group delay which somewhat indicates distortion.

I choose 38hz as the fq for ported. I would contact Kicker to find out where they recommend it to play.

So looking at the graphs I would say the ported small enclosure would be a good choice. There isnt that much difference with the larger box SPL wise and while it would be louder its not going to sound as good. I am not a expert at analyzing these outside of the obvious.

Blue = sealed, 1cuft
Pink - sealed, 4 cuft
Green = ported, 1.75 cuft
Yellow = ported, 2.25 cuft

Nice simulation joe! I was going to do something similar on maple/mat-lab but the responses were anything but idea, and the graphs on maple's output are only numerical.

Just remember their is no such thing as the "perfect box", nor a 100% sealed enclosure. The key is limiting the factors that create distortion.

Correct. I am fairly new to Winisd so been slowly learning how to decipher these and how the data applies to real world.

Thanks a lot Joe!

In a couple months when I'm caught up on cash and time maybe I could throw you some money to build this small ported?
