Blue wire is usually the amp turn on wire and should be connected behind the HU

Haha this a true assumption, only his blue wire tends to look to be about 8-10gauge. While the rest of his wires (minus ground) look to be around 12ga +. The blue wire in his case is surely 12v supply/ground.

From his pic, I don't see a turn on lead. It looks as though the person who had this installed before used a hard turn on. Meaning, they ran a fused wire from the main power wire to a switchable means or directly to the amp for the turn on lead.

top right corner of the picture, the small blue wire is indeed the remote turn on lead that connects to the hu

Did not see that at the top right corner. And you are correct, looks to be the remote turn on lead.

I had thought WYo was assuming the Aluminum coated wire was the turn on lead. My appologies.

I would tear it all out and use the correct color and gauge of wire for the job.
It is easier than trying to figure out someone else's shabby work.

Assuming the OP only wants a simple 200w or so system the gauges he posted will be just fine. The color codes are irrelevant once he finds 12+ . And they actually look to be correct. Red and Blue are typical colors to be used for power wires. I use welding cable so all mine are solid black.

If you don't want to spend the time or money installing additional wiring, use the above. Just make sure the blue is the 12v supply.,

The black cable is 8 gauge Raptor battery cable, the red is the same gauge. The speaker wire is 12 gauge.

here is the battery:
