Absolutely NOTHING. It is a gimmick started by the Ricer crowd.
It added 20 HP to those Japanese cars and improved gas mileage too!
Just more junk for an aftermarket dealer to sell you. Don't waste your money.
Just buy some colored hose protectors. At least those look cool.
And add 30HP

The alt isnt made or intended to charge batteries, its for "maintaining" the charge of the battery its in parallel with. Of course if your battery is within a few tenths of its maximum voltage, the alt will resupply those volts. But in general, a vehicles alt is only for maintaining current. It's not intended to charge anything.
This is why alot of people who have bad batteries or ones going dead, end up replacing an alt, soon there after.

Vehicle alternators are typically 100amp rated. Better than most battery chargers.
Current is the thing. Starting an engine takes a huge current draw, the alternator must replenish that current and it does easily as you move down the road.
All interesting stuff for an electrician lol

Once the vehicle is running there is no longer a need for a battery.

I agree that your alt supplies all the necessary current to power everything when running. The battery is mainly used for cranking, and reserve/backup. This is all WLOG(without loss of generality).
My XLT FX4 has a 130, but my BMW 330 has a 180amp. Hence, the big ampres draw from a 4 door sedan with power everything. Also, the BMW came with 1ga (big 3) while my truck had around 4awg ga.
I upgraded the alt and big 3 in my truck and it powers my 2k stereo and winch just fine, with an interestate mega-tron 1000CCA.
