Had a bunch of pioneer AVICs. Now running Kenwood.
Kenwood, no hacking required to make it user friendly while driving, Pioneer you have to rewire one of the harnesses (easy).
Both great units.

I'd suggest going to a store or two and mess with different ones to see what you like or don't like. Just because people here like Alpine or Pioneer or Kenwood doesn't mean you will, the interface may not be to your liking... maybe you have big ol' meaty sausage fingers and find the buttons on an Alpine to be too small?
That said... I had a Kenwood DNX7120 in my first Mazdaspeed3 and I liked it very much. Garmin branded Nav was nice (if you like Garmin) and map updates were easy to get via "alternate sources". I'm also pretty happy with the Clarion NX702 I have now, it's a got some cool features and some interesting quirks. However, I find myself considering something Android based like a Parrot or Kenwood DNN990HD. I like the Parrot but the screen could be bigger.
