Default Avh-p4400bt

I want to install this unit in my 2010 xlt. I've look around and haven't found answers to my questions. I do not have sync or steering wheel controls. Stereo is stock for now. Crutchfield said I need this $130 harness http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Mobil...2rfrd1&tp=3486

Is that true? Is there an easier cheaper way? I'm a noob at stereo installation so any help is appreciated.

I guess part of my question is do you just splice wires if you don't buy a haness? With the crutchfield kit there looks like there's a lot of stuff that comes with it

You can but its more work than its worth,Things like 12v, RAP, Illumination, VSS, Reverse, ect are data signals now. You have to go find them in other places in the truck, not at the stereo plug. Thats why its called an interface now and not a harness. Just splice to the interface and its plug-n-play, the interface decodes the data. Leaves your truck wiring untouched

I got everything in the mail except the f@$&in head unit. It won't be here till Monday. I'm thinking about doing something with dash trim kit. I've seen guys on here use textured spray paint and another use the stick on Kevlar. I have an XLT, any ideas on what to do with it?

Really depends on how much work you want to do. I think think the texture paint looks good

My truck is blue flame I think it would look out of place in the grey interior

So I got it all hooked up and everything with the h/u works great but now I have no dash lights... Any idea what I screwed up?

It blew the fuse... Did I wire it wrong? Or do I need a fuse bigger than 10 amps for the head unit?

Ok ever thing is working fine except now my check engine light is on... Wft. It's 2am though and I'm going to get some sleep.
