Auxiliary input?

I'm in the same puddle ur in. It does have the hookup on the back because I have a 2004 xlt and I took it out and it has the connector. Ford just "thought ahead" but didn't add it in our years. You can buy one online but you have to lookup "16 pin ford aux"

That open connector on the back of most of the 2004-2008 radios is for steering wheel controls. The 3.5mm jack plugs branches off the radio main wiring harness. If you are careful, you can tap into the wiring harness, but why risk it when for about $50 you can get an adapter that does that neatly for you.

I think that the 3.5mm aux jack became available in 2006 as an option and standard in 2007, so even though your radio has an AUX button on it, it does nothing, and there are no OEM solutions to add it, as the radio itself is missing the actual 3.5mm jack controller.
I'm thinking you may be on to something. I have the Ford (OEM green color) Electrical Manual and there is no mention of any harness, adapter or other OEM aux adapter in the Radio section.
I wonder is someone with a 2005 or 2006 can confirm that it was added.
I also searched "2004 F150 16 pin ford aux" and came across this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Lincoln...NWA3GX&vxp=mtr
If the above item works as intended, it would appear that the 16 pin connector on the back of the radio is for an external CD changer. This adapter fools the radio into thinking a DVD/ CD player/changer of some type is installed. This should activate the AUX button.
I hope..

I know for sure the adapters out there will work with no issues, as plenty of people were installing them back then, I have even installed couple of them myself for a couple of friends for their 2004 and 2005.
The adapter you have is a good price, the only thing I don't like about it is that the 3.5mm plus is part of the unit, so if it gets damaged, which the often do when you have kids, you have to replace the whole unit. But that issue might not relate to you if you don't have teenagers.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Guess I better see what the owners manual says. I don't recall it covering SIRIUS or a CD changer, but I'm disputing your claim. It does make sense.
Thanks.
