Anybody else preorder the Alpine INE-Z928HD?

from what i was told by alpine, steering wheel controls are retained via the perfect fit harness. the unit is satellite radio ready (as in it has no satellite tuner itself), so if the factory satellite tuner is separate from the actual factory radio then im assuming it should work. unfortunately it will not retain sync, but i rarely use mine so that wasnt a big deal to me.

So the Sirius function unfortunately will not work plug into the Alpine. The Alpine is SXM ready, which means you can get Sirius, but as part of the "Best of" on the XM platform. SiriusXM is migrating all service to the XM platform going forward, as evidenced by their launching of a new satellite a couple years back which is in a Geo-synchonous orbit in line with the other XM satellites.
However there is some good news. The new SXV200V1 tuner rocks! it is roughly $19.99 after web rebate. But the beauty part is that it offers lot's more control of content and capabilities previously only found on the plug and plays and online.

- Replay function, works like a DVR in your truck, play pause up to 60 minutes of music or shows.
- Song/Artist/Game alert
- iTunes Tagging
- Channel Logos (I don't believe the new Alipne supports logos or not)

Phone buttons do not function currently on the kit, although we are working on an update for that.
It requires another connection from the steering wheel control interface to a wire under the steering column
that controls the phone buttons.
Sync is not retained, although most all of the functions (except voice control) are replaced by the 928.
The LCD on the dash still functions, but it will no longer display audio or BT info.

"Keep your factory look and controls
This Perfect Fit package lets you install Alpine's INE-Z928HD navigation receiver (not included) while keeping your factory look and controls. The package contains a dash adapter that's been specially designed to make the INE-Z928HD with its big 8" screen look right at home in your F-150.
Plug it in and go
Alpine's made hookup easy too — the included wiring adapter plugs directly from the Alpine receiver into your vehicle's factory wiring harness — no splicing or soldering needed. The package also includes a steering wheel control interface — no programming necessary, just plug it in and go. Warranty: 1 year."
This implies that the steering wheel phone controls WILL work. You could also infer that when you press the "Sync" button on the steering wheel, it will initiate a bluetooth interface with the Alpine head unit. Please confirm this Jeff.
Will the factory OEM sirius antennae plug into the sirius kit you refer to? I'm guessing the installer may have to pull off an adapter on the OEM and it should plug right into the sirius kit.

The factory Sirius will NOT work, as the Alpine is SXM ready (Not Sirius Compatible), which is actually the XM platform. But this guy plugs right in with new functionality. http://www.crutchfield.com/I-rF15c11...200V1&skipvs=T
We do not know of a way to maintain the factory Sirius with an after market head unit except for the New Kenwood Navigation systems
http://www.crutchfield.com/I-rF15c11...isplay=Kenwood
and an adapter called an ADS Maestro. This device will maintain all Sync functions and actually allow a button on the Kenwood to use the Sync as a source. When you do the initial install you pick where you want to get your source from ie.
Bluetooth and Sirius from Sync
iPod and Radio from Kenwood.
We are hoping to see this magic Maestro at the end of August but it has been delayed thus far.

...With Sync, the Bluetooth is actually a Sync module. It will not work the Bluetooth functions...yet... as mentioned in the edit I added from Alpine. They are working on a software and install update.
Would this be something where you could "flash" the head unit to establish this capability once they have an update, or would you have to wait until the fix the problem THEN get the unit.

I like this unit, paired with the Alpine-if they're able to work out the update. I assume Ford/Microsoft is not being helpful to the them so they're on their own.
Any idea on the time frame or is it just "we're working on it..."
I'm glad I noticed your post, I was getting ready to order this stuff now.

Hey Jeff, do you happen to have an iphone? I'm curious as to how text messages work with the new alpine. Does your phone make a noise when a new text arrives or is it silent as it is currently with Sync. It's one of the biggest issues I have with sync. In IOS6, Apple is finally adding Bluetooth MAP profiles, but i would be fine with just being able to actually hear my phone when I get a new text when say I'm listening to the radio instead of only hearing it when I'm streaming via bluetooth.
