does this mean you are running a ground wire from amp to the battery?
or do you mean that you are grounding to the negative side of battery via frame, or part of the body that is grounded. !!!!

Ok I didn't read the entire 7 pages of posts...but listen here.
First off..your not running 1,000 watts. Your running 250 if your running a 4 ohm load. Only if you were running a 1 ohm load(highly doubted) would you get 1,000 watts. Your problem is this: YOUR AMP IS GOING INTO PROTECT MODE!!
I dont want to sound mean but that amp is garbage! Capacitors are crap and you dont need another altenator!! Quit believeing the hype and listen to people who actually have experience in the audio field.
First off get a better amp. Second if your lights are dimming do the "BIG 3" upgrade. This means upgrade the wires from the ALTENATOR TO THE BATTERY...THE BATTERY TO THE GOUND...ENGINE GROUND TO CHASSIS. That's it. I replaced mine with 1/0 guage and was running fine.
I ran two amps totalling 1400 watts RMS..not max.
