That is what I did. I upgraded the door speakers and powered from HU and added a mono amp and sub. So much better. I did this with the factory HU and the aftermarket HU I have installed now.

If your going to buy an amp why not buy a 5 channel and amp everything. The amp will have high pass crossovers so you will be able to keep the bass out of your doors. That alone will make a world of difference as long as you have a sub

I did the same as Tallyman. It was just a matter of easiness. Used the FRD24 for the sub. Had an old Alpine sub amp.
