I'll get some pics up tomorrow.. it was the first install on this unit so he cut me a deal. Price includes everything. Everything is working great except text notifications on screen. Because the system retains sync and Bluetooth while Alpine has bluetooth of its own its one or the othet...notifications from text only come on screen when sync is applied. Not sure if that's important or not as I really don't text n drive... I prefer alpines bluetooth as I get Pandora song titles and artist info. The screen is huge n the sound on my stock speakers have improved greatly

Iv worked through the bluetooth issue by un-pairing sync.(not really sure why i need it)so goodbye.... iv'e also installed an auto bluetooth connect APP from the market that connects my bluetooth automatically. now its pretty much get it in and go. after the intial sticker shock is over i'm digging it. I use Alpine tunelt APP to fine tune the sound. I also can save different settings and apply settings from other people. the system makes my speakers come alive and would bet new speakers with a sub would take it to another level. i'm getting an HDMI cable to see if youtube will play with no hitches.

That looks good! So it comes with the trim piece? Do they offer another color other than black?

Nope just the gloss black. not sure what suit mullet decided that but it is what it is.... with the chrome accent that matches my chrome vents it's not that bad.

I'm not sure why Ford chose to do this since it would seem like it would be easier and cheaper to use the same data for all their vehicles rather than re-developing it for every system. Between the two head units they cover the vast majority of the F-150's. It's the radio upgrade you can make to that vehicle. If you haven't seen the 9" screen in person stop into a local shop and take a look at it. They look great in that dash.
It's much more simple than this. If you have the old style system (two line monochrome LCD at top of dash) then you have a gen 1 system. Sync is different, the radio plug itself is different. This applies to the 11-14 trucks, but the 13/14 only the most entry level trims. These trucks use the FD1 solution and standard dash kit. The 13/14 trucks with the 4.2 inch color screen are generation 2 Ford audio and Radio plug is newer flat style, sync is completely re-done (I think worse) and you need the FD2.

You can actually go into the settings and choose to pair with the OEM (sync) just for hands free calling. Then you can pair with both Alpine and Sync for audio streaming. This will give you best of both, although in that case you will not be able to use voice functions of the Alpine as the mic and audio input will go to sync. If you choose not to use Sync then the mic from the Alpine needs to be installed. You cannot use the Sync mic for the Alpine Bluetooth hands free system.

Thanks 12V appreciate that. when sync is hooked up the Text Messages on screen was buggy. calls hands free was also buggy. pairing both at once seemed to be a conflick of which one connected when i entered the truck.

the way the Alpine is set-up which i'm guessing you know works great with-out voice. everything including my favorite contacts radio stations be it pandora xm or FM and usb are two button presses away. what's important is my bluetooth hooks up when i turn the key on.....

the only voice i need is on phone calls-. unless i'm missing something by not having sync.?
