Alpine XOO9-FD2 (2013-2014)with 4.2 screen.
Yep.... price is steep at 3,000 but i figured why not get to talking about an option as we wait for 12V .....
So is this a DIY kit, easy to install?? any thoughts on how this thing will sound with-upgrading your speakers especially compared to some double Din systems. will this unit except an Amp??

Scroll down to the bottom of the description page on the Alpine link, it is NOT for those of us with the 4" screen, it's a direct replacement for the 9" MFT system, noted because they do not list an XLT, only Limited, Platinum, Raptor, King Ranch, FX2 & 4, and Lariat.
Crutchfield says it is for us with 4" screen, so which is it?

Compatibility: 2007-2014 Ford F-150 XL, STX, XLT, FX2, FX4, SVT Raptor*.
*The specified vehicles have been tested and have met compatibility specs at the time of testing. Compatibility is not guaranteed if the manufacturer has made production changes to the listed vehicles above. Not compatible with 4.2" LCD screen (My Ford) or 8" LCD touch screen (My Ford Touch) equipped vehicles.
why would we want this unit?

There were two different models made for a few reasons. There's the vehicles that have a standard HVAC control and some of those models work with the FD1. The FD2 works with some of the vehicles that have the digital HVAC controls. All the different Ford audio systems use a different data system. I'm not sure why Ford chose to do this since it would seem like it would be easier and cheaper to use the same data for all their vehicles rather than re-developing it for every system. Between the two head units they cover the vast majority of the F-150's. It's the radio upgrade you can make to that vehicle. If you haven't seen the 9" screen in person stop into a local shop and take a look at it. They look great in that dash.
