I installed them over the weekend. LOVE them! it's a night and day difference in performance. It took me longer to remove the door panels than to switch out the speakers. no joke, night and day difference. no amp, stock head unit and for $80/pair, it's a must. In my previous car, I had my components amped (CDT Audio components, $259) and these sound very close to being amped.

F150 4 Door Stock Head Unit(Sony touch screen) AudioControl LC7i Front JL Audio C3 Convertibles-Mounted in door with tweeter in pod. Rear-JL Audio C3 Convertibles-Mounted in door with tweeter attached. Mid/Highs Amp is JL Audio XD400/4 v2 100w x 4 @ 2 ohms per channel 75w x 4 @ 4 ohms per channel 200w x 2 @ 4ohms bridged 2 10" subs in a Fox Box Rockford Fosgate HX2 DVC's Peak Power Handling: 1000 watts RMS Power Range: 500 watts Sub Amp Eclipse 34230 Premium 370x2 RMS @ 4 ohm STEREO
Audio Control is hands down the best for making amazing sound from your stock head unit. If I had a truck with sync, I would definitely invest in some audio control products.

for those of you adding components to the front... I assume you just disconnected the old tweeters and ran the new ones off the crossover that comes with the speakers correct? any trouble adjusting the low/mid/high settings on the HU?

1. you can put components in anything, but sometimes they require a little extra work. If you dont have tweeters in your pillars then you will need to buy pillars or custom mount yours. In general the sail panel is a great place for a tweeter, but obviously requires cutting a hole in your door panel. Another option is a set of convertible components where the tweeter can be mounted coaxially
2. Look on sonicelectronix or woofersetc for a better selection of 5x7/6x8 components. They used to have a pretty nice set of Diamond Audio convertibles. I would never run oval speakers, but there is nothing wrong with them. You can fit a 6.5 speaker where a 6x8 used to be. Adapters are available but they are usually cheap plastic. Better to make your own
3. Components are never "necessary". 95% of the time components will be higher quality and sound better than a coaxial. Coaxials are marketed to folks looking for a budget upgrade, while components are, with some exceptions, for people who are more setious about their sound
4. Infinitys seem to be popular here, but i find them to be very bright and fatiguing to listen to.
My suggestion would be to put components in the front and coaxials in the rear

Next week I'm installing a new head unit and amp, so that should make another major improvement. If the stock tweeters continue to sound bad (which I assume they will) then I'll probably just disconnect them, which kinda stinks because I like the imaging they give.

Focal separates in kick panels. Focal coaxials in the rear doors but I ended up fading the sound alway to the front.

I have that kit in my 99' Mustang and with the Alpine mini-amp they sound really good. Highs are really good, mids are ok. MUCH cheaper if you look for them on Amazon.
However, I am looking at a JL component kit thats similar to go in the Mustang so the Alpines that are in my Mustang will go in the F150.
