tapping into the red ignition wire and running it over with a tap fuse worked for me! I got power on and off know with the turn of a key! I also do not have illumation around my advent **** or the buttons on top. anyone have to use the illumination wire on the back of the harness and run that over the the fuse panel and use a splice connector to the illumination wire that I think is violet/white. can anyone give suggestions?
fireman you may already have seen this elsewhere. I noticed on mine the ****'s illumination wasn't coming on when I left the headlights in the Automatic setting. But turning the light switch to OFF and back on would make the Advent panel lights come on. I did not (I think) run the illumination wire.
2nd thing. I clicked in here after seeing the ADC Walt Unprofessional thread title.
Not for me! I bought mine 2nd hand from a member here. I called Walt and he went above and beyond to give me the remainder of the original warranty. (Never needed it) Helped me get the right Jlink cable for my Iphone and SAT tuner. Answered questions, and took an active interest in some of the out of the norm things I was curious about regarding the Advent and Sync compatibility. I couldn't have asked for better service.

Yep Walt was awesome to talk with for some tips! I don't have automatic head lights. I have a 2010 stx. Short of power power locks ac cruise running boards and rear tint she's stripped out.

I guess I have to run a wire from the orange illumination wire from the unit over to kick panel in the harness there is a purple/white wire which I think is the illumination wire. I also got a rydeen back up camera for free. Install looks pretty straight fwd. on the wiring side that goes into the radio there's the yellow ra then a small red wire that says reverse power anode out put. What do I wire that one too ?

Wow! I just saw this old thread, and the thing that jumped out at me was that I was called out as unprofessional. I appreciate the guys that have come to my aid in the meantime, because after almost 40 years as a professional installer, the one thing I don't believe I have ever been called is unprofessional!
The issue that started this thread was a problem with installing the Advent radio in 2010 model year F-150s. This is due to the fact that some, but certainly not all, 2010 model year trucks don't have the correct programming (data) on board to communicate correctly to the data interpreter that is attached to the Advent radio. If this data stream is not there, some of the instructions for proper operation of the deck can't be read, and some of the features will not work.
Specifically, if the data is not there, the radio will turn on, but not turn off. The backlighting of the radio will not work. Steering wheel controls will not work. SYNC won't work. Once we became aware of these issues, I tried to isolate the problems to a range of VIN numbers or production dates, or any other variable that may have led to being able to represent whether or not the radio would work correctly in any particular vehicle. After more than a month of working towards that goal, I had to give up because I couldn't see any pattern emerging that would give us any insight as to whether we could determine which trucks had what programming. At that point, I gave it back to Advent to try and track that information down. I don't believe they have ever come up with any additional information.
For each one of the issues we could establish a work around for, we did, and I have passed that information along to other owners (even when they weren't my customers). I have also been very upfront with all owners of 2010 model year vehicles that were interested in this radio that there was a chance that these functions would not work, and that if they did end up buying that unit, we could get the radio to work (turn on and off and have backlighting work properly), but that steering wheel controls and SYNC would never work. Contrast this to the 2010 model year truck still being called out as a good fit on Advent's application guide! At least I warn my customers upfront that there may be an issue, where if somebody doesn't have the experience that we do with this radio, they'll sell it and run into problems without a clue as to how to fix them…
To sum up – I get a little perturbed when someone attacks me for something that is not my fault, especially when I go out of my way to try and understand their problem and come up with solutions. It may not be an issue for too much longer though, as these radios are now out of production and there are fewer than 40 units in the warehouse. We will continue to sell them as long as we can, since I firmly believe that it is the best option for a factory look radio in that truck, but sooner rather than later, they will be going away...

Walt....you can't please everyone. I work in IT and no matter how hard I try to give good customer service, there is always that one person. Just nature of the beast.
I have a 2011 so the issues the OP had does not pertain to me. But Walt was nothing but professional when I had questions during the install and updating the HU firmware. He even changed the startup splash screen for me before he shipped the order. It was PNP play install for me and looks like a factory install.
To bad these units are no more. I installed mine in 2012 and love it. Great functionality and sound. No issues with Sync at all. Well...the issues I do have are with Sync and not the HU.

Walt has been very helpful with answering any questions that I have asked and knows his stuff. I guess this shows that you can not please everyone! I talked to him two nights ago until almost 9pm central time. Hope you figure out your problem.

I just bought a remanned unit off of Amazon and it should be here next week. I also got the Sirius SVX300v1 tuner to go along with it. I have a 2012 screw xlt with sync. Will it pretty much be all PNP or is there some wiring that will have to be done?

It should work if you have the one of the 'non screen' radios. I bought one last year, with the sirius add on, and it was plug and play in my 14 STX. Its nice that it keeps sync, and the navigation is pretty solid. I enjoy the speed limits viewed on the screen, and the lane guidance. I replaced all the factory speakers with Memphis, and the power is amazing. My truck came with the rear camera in the rearview mirror, so I recently added a front camera to the system and tricked it to use the rear input via a switch.
All in all, go get one of these if you are considering a radio upgrade. Anything is better than stock. I can post some pics if anyone wants them.
