Default 6 disc changer malfunctioning

I have a 2003 FX4 Lariat with built in 6 disc changer. The player will not eject CD's and rarely plays them. It seems to constantly cycle but flashes the words "CD Error" or "No CD". Any suggestions on where to start? Should I pull the face off or is this something to take to the local Car Audio store?

Thanks.

What type of CDs are you using?

Time to either go shopping for a new unit or spend a ton fixing yours. Ford 6disks are notorious for failing, many years have the warning "scrap if dropped" on them, they are incredibly fragile

Their design is flawed. Ford 6-disc players *do not* allow you to just push the CD into the unit. When you do, you're playing roulette with the unit. ...they are unlike every other non-tray based loading system and have paid the price over the years for it.

My dealer warns people that they cannot replace the unit under warranty if you force load the player.

If you take it apart, the transport can be separated from the rest of the unit. Fair bit of dissassembly is needed. Replacement unit will be pricey, so I would either buy an aftermarket, or used radio online. Regardless of brand they all can break.

This is why I joined..my F150 '05 6CD changer is giving me the same errors & I've barely used it. No accidents, no off roading. I'm pretty bummed out-I was planning on getting a replacement & wanted to see what you guys had to say. This is too bad.

2006 f150 supercrew lariat 5.4 3v 4wd ..with premium sound..great sounding system....i have had issues with the cd changer almost from new ...always clycles thru when i start truck..but it always worked until warrenty ran out..then it stoped playing and wont eject my cds..also my sterring wheel volume and tuning buttons stop working at the same time..dont see much sense spending any money on it unless i can find someone to unstick cds in hopes that will get me some more use out of it...any thoughts???

Default CD Error, No CD

I have the same problem with my 6 disc changer in my 03 F150. I bought a stereo removal tool today. Tomorrow I'm gonna attempt to remove the CD's by hand. If that doesn't fix it I'm gonna trash it!!

Mine works when it wants to in my 03 king ranch. the 6th slot doesnt work at all and i get a lot of "BAD DISC" messages and it spits the cd back out at me, but atleast it doesn't eat em. I think it's time for a nice double DIN navi after christmas anyways

So basically no fix for getting CD's out without removing the unit and disassembling it. Same problems mentioned in this thread on my 2007 Super Crew. Three disc in it and no way to get them out and won't play.
