500 door speaker/ amp setup
#2
You can pick up 4 infinity references 5x7 for about $122 on ebay. Then the rest will go to the amp. Grab a Alpine PDX-F4 for $300 and your set. Actually you could step up to the kappas instead for under $500.

thanks for the suggestion.... anyone else? What does everyone think about these Polk Audio MM651?or the (5/7)/(6/8) version. Either will work.

Only your ears can tell how they sound .. I prefer the Kappas!! oh and that Polk Audio link there takes me to 6 1/2 in speakers you will need some adapters to make them fit

As far as speakers go, it's all in how they sound to you. As far as price, average decent brand polk audio, infinity, kicker, boston acoustic 5x8 run about $100 a pair. Though some installers will tell you that they will not sound as good as round speakers. An amp putting out 50 to 70 watts x4 rms would be ideal and are available in the $300 range, but even a 40w rms x4 is better than no amp at all.

One possible setup for my 2010 XL. (has only door speakers)
1. Kenwood dd418 receiver $450
2. Kenwood kac-1502s 2x60w rms $100
3. Polk Audio DB571 6-60w rms $100
4. JL Audio pwm110-wjx sub w/amp $300
Total cost $950.00
Prices are from Crutchfield and should be considered as a guide only, though a shop in my area says he will match prices.
Went with the Polk Audio's because I've used them before. Plus the 3/4" silk tweeters will sound very clean.

Pioneer ts-d1720c 6 3/4" come with 6x8 adapters. $114 a pair. They made the top ten speakers reviewed car audio online. This review is the premier version but it the same speaker with a 2yr warranty instead of one. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/St...E720Review.pdf
They sound great with 40 watts or more so any amp you want. You should still have money left over for your amp install kit.
