I know nothing about ohms..... What is better 2 or 4 ohms? And why is one better than the other?

depends on your amp. some amps have different outputs on different ohm loads. usually the lower the ohm the more power the amp will put out. if your amp is 1 ohm stable you will want a dual 2 ohm sub and wire it down to 1 ohm. if your amp runs at 2 ohms them you will want a 4 ohm sub and wire it down to 2 ohms.

this choice also matters on how many sub you are using. because if you wire your subs together and run the on the same amp your ohm load is cut in half.

what amp are you looking at and what subs?

Power is equal to I (squared) * R - I being current (amps) and R being resistance (ohms).

Power is also volts * amps or volts (squared) divided by ohms.

In other words, if the amp is capable of 12 volts across 4 ohms it will flow 3 amps. Soooo. 3 squared is 9 times 4 ohms is 36 watts.

12 volts across 2 ohms flows 6 amps. 6 squared is 36 times 2 ohms is 72 watts.

Power is a relationship with other factors. It never equates to actual sound levels (db's). SPL ratings are better for that.

Ohm's Law is represented below.
