My name is Bill Fraley. As noted in my previous reply, it was a few seconds of a song (Lil Jon/Get Low) and it was in a 2002 Ford Focus ZX3.

I have attached pictures of the '03 Explorer and the 2002 Focus I used in competition. There is also a crappy pic of the 12W7 and the box as well.

Thanks for the information. Are you sure you didn't mistype your meter score? 153 on a single 12 sounds crazy. 153 on 500 watts sounds even more crazy. Give me some more info here bc you've actually sparked my interest

It was on the old style meter. They have since improved the meter and it is more accurate. I asked about it at the time and the guy running the sound comp booth told me most people see 3-5 db loss on the new meter.

That sub and amp cost me a ton of money. I bought that sub the month it was released and built the box according to JL specs. They actually faxed us the specs for it. I also had an Eclipse head unit with very high voltage outputs. The sound was clean and loud.

I cannot remember if the event I competed for in the Explorer was the old or new meter, but with 2 subs and twice the wattage I only hit 153.x. The shape of the Focus lends itself to SPL. Also, in the Explorer, you could not light a lighter with the bass kicking. Even a Zippo would blow right out. I miss those days for sure, but I am just too old to get that deep in to it again.

I forgot to mention that I installed everything myself. My buddy at the sound shop hooked me up with the box specs and the shop built it for me. I had to have it done for a car show and didn't have time to do it. I also tuned all the amps myself. In the Explorer me and another friend built the dual sub box with a similar design. This stuff used to be my life.

Whoops! I see you did post the link to the NAV module.

How has it been working?
Does it allow you to input video too?

It has worked flawlessly. It has its own USB port and a video player. I used it on my trip to Michigan recently. Very happy with the product. it has two video inputs for camera but haven't tried them out.

I have already upgraded the system since the install. I replaced the single 10" sub with a dual 12" box from the same manufacturer. I put 2 12" NVX subs and the box and speakers were under $200 total. I am very happy with the improvement for the cost. The subs are running the amp at 2ohms. They are dual 2ohm voice coils per sub. So they are wired in series between the voice coils and in parallel to the amp. The Kicker amp puts out almost 500 watts at 2ohms so it is very close to the RMS for these subs (300 watts each). The sealed box is 1.25 cubes per sub and the sub sweet spot is 1.28 so they are well matched.

This is the sub box:

I have also changed the Navigation software to DESNAV. It is a pay program but it includes better maps than I experienced with iGO and it includes yearly map updates for $36:

Just an FYI update for those that may be interested. I will be upgrading the door speakers as my next sound upgrade.
