I am planning to eventually upgrade the speakers, but not to 6x8s. I plan to install 6x9 woofers and upgraded tweeters in the front and replace the back with 2 way coaxials.

My point is that the AMP is the more important upgrade. Upgrading the speakers without the AMP is less satisfying for me.

I bought the sub box on ebay, if you search for the product id on the label in the pic you should find it. I think it was $35.

I plan to replace the sub with a DVC sub to obtain the most power from my amp. I am not sure what I will choose at this point though.

oh dont get me wrong, I agree. You can't just put new speakers in with no power to drive them. But I guess what I'm saying to you is that kicker speakers are only about $50 for a pair. it's a worthwhile upgrade. And if your in a 2015, it doesn't really matter if you go 6x8 or 6x9 you will need to fabricate an adaptor. 6x9's are not simply going to drop in the doors. Crutchfield is actually showing to use the 6.5" rounds with adaptors in the front doors.

Round speakers are better than ovals anyways when comparing apples to apples. Why not build a box to meet the subwoofers specifications and let it shine?

Get a 2ohm dvc and wire down to 1 ohm

The round vs oval debate has been going on for over a decade. It is not as simple as you might think. A 6x9" will produce more bass than a 6" round speaker. It would take running the speaker to it's extreme excursion rate to really see a problem with one vs the other. I will consider 6.5" components but I am not too concerned if I find a good quality 6x9" woofer. Coaxials are out of the question for me.

I used to compete in SPL. I have built many boxes in my day. I once hit 156db with a single 12" sub and 500 watts. I have a few trophies but I haven't competed in many years now.

This small under-seat box is perfect for my current needs. It fits perfectly and allows plenty of response for a shallow mount sub. I am sure I could squeeze more out of the sub with a custom box, but then it wouldn't fit so neatly under the seat.

Why are you even trying to get bass and excursion out of door speakers? You have a subwoofer for that.

I too compete in spl. Do you Have a video of your 156 on 500 watts? How do you know it was exactly 500 watts? Where was the meter? On the dash? On the head rest? Doors open or closed? What about the Windows?

I'm calling a BS on your score, to put it simply.

First of all, there is this thing called mid bass. If you know sound you wouldn't have made such a ridiculous assertion that door speakers do not need to produce bass. Sub woofers are for sub bass and full range speakers are responsible for mid bass. Poor mid bass performance is the reason many systems sound like crap to me.

I had a JL 12W7 with a JL 500/1 in a JL spec box that we built. The real output of the amp was definitely higher than the rated 500 watts but well within the 1000 watt class I was competing in. I really don't care what you believe so you can get over that now. I accomplished the 156db on the old meter back in 2002 at SlamFest. This is the biggest car/truck show in Florida and it takes place at the State Fair Grounds near Tampa.

On the new meter I would have lost 3-5db is what I have been told. The highest SPL I accomplished was in a 2002 Ford Focus ZX3. The car had a lot to do with it. I then had a 2003 Explorer with 2 12W7s and a 1000/1. The highest SPL I ever achieved with that car and setup was 153.2 (I was either .2 or .6). After that explorer I did not compete any longer. I have three first place DBL trophies from the Focus and 1 third place on the Explorer.

Video was not commonplace in 2002 so that did not get taken. Believe it or not the highest SPL was with a Lil Jon song called Get Low. This was from the CD Kings of Crunk.

Anything else you want to know?

The meter was positioned on the windshield. Of course all the doors and windows were closed. Nobody was pushing on any doors or windows from the outside of the car either.

I'm very familiar with slamfest. What is your name? Was that score on music or burping? What kind of vehicle was it in
