No modification since they are the same size, 6x9 & 6.5" respectively BUT you will have to cut out the factory speaker from their plastic mounting adapters and then use them to mount your new speakers! Not a real problem as it is easy to do; some have used them as a template to make their own adapters from plywood, but that's much more work which is not really necessary.

So which 691's did you use? the db's or aa's?
Nevermind... must be the db's since that is all they show on Polk's website.

Front speaker replacement
Hey guys, thought I would chime in since I relate to y'all. I also traded my 13 FX2 luxury for a 15 XLT. I LOVED that truck but couldn't wait any longer for a new one and honestly with heated cloth in this truck I don't even miss leather. I only miss the stereo! I'm pissed they didn't put HD in here when Toyota and others have it standard. I can't afford the cost of amps and after much research and previous experience with Infinity, Alpine, Audiobahn and Rockford Fosgate I opted for JBL since they sound amazing in my wife's Highlander. I got the JBL GTO 938 and they sound terrific! Clarity, clean bass etc and didn't go negative on the bass scale like you can with some speakers. I used a dremel and cut the old speakers out and used the new bracket instead of a template. Here's pics if it helps!

Not yet. I'm not sure if I'd rather do the rear or the tweeters in the pillars first. Ultimately I think highs are mainly what I'm lacking so I'm leaning more towards tweeters. The first door took about 1:45-2 hours start to finish, the second door took only about 45 mins since at that point I had learned the whole process.

What do you mean when you say airbag worries? I already have tweeters in the pillars I assumed replacement would be simple by removing the screws in the oh **** handles. Do you not have them in your 11? I can't remember if my 12 had them or not.

No my 2011 XLT has no tweeters in the pillar. I added them to the door panel. Made the biggest difference in the sound.
If you already have them then it should be easy.

I'm getting ready to order the same speakers, but have a couple of questions.
First, are you not getting too many highs from both the tweeters in the new speakers and the ones in the pillars? You said you were lacking highs, but mine actually seems a little overbearing at times. Especially if I have the HU set to Driver Only.
And what about the connections? Were you able to use the factory door harness connectors or did you cut them and splice them? Or did you solder the new speaker to the connectors on the old speaker frame? and if so, how difficult was that? (I'm not one of the best of solderers... )
