I would go with 3 way active it gives much better mid range and staging IMO. You don't have to spend a ton of money either. The PPI 3ways have great reviews along with a mini DSP and you are set.

@ciscokid1957
After extensive listening i find the Audiofrogs to be much more natural sounding and having better depth. Here are few pics of the install.

Yes and no.. I know I want to go active 3 way.. But first, I am diving deep into http://www.diymobileaudio.com to learn more about sound deadening, DSP tuning and so forth. Also, I have discovered the world of SQ.. Now that is what I'm am interested in... Didn't know that world existed in mobile audio until last week .. Thought it was all SPL!

So the way you did your upgrade is probably the same path I'm going to take. Thanks for that btw, I can see myself trying to get my tube amps into the cab now.... lol...

Concerning equipment, being that this will be my first attempt, I'm leaning towards a modest budgeted system using:

  • Precision Power PPI P65c3 for the front stage- I like the idea of the AMT tweeter.
  • Precision Power PPI DSP.88R for the processor -
  • XD600/6V2 - JL Audio 6-Channel 600W RMS Class D XD Series Amplifier - For the front stage.
  • Sub system - This is where I am torn.. I would like to get a sub behind the seat, but I realize that there are physical space limitations to deal with. So for now, I am undecided, but would probably look at something to go under the rear passenger seat. Would like to keep as much of the under seat storage open as possible. But that could change..
At least that is my plans at the moment, this could change depending on what equipment comes out this spring...

Thanks,
Danny

Nice equipment list that precision power components are getting great reviews. I would go with the Mini DSP 6x8 over the PPI DSP.

https://www.minidsp.com/products/min...-box/c-dsp-6x8

http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...dsp-c-dsp.html

For the sub, I was happy with the Sundown SD3 under seat. I am probably going to sell it on the forum along with the custom enclosure.

Good luck on your build!

Kraken, thanks for the links on the Mini DSP, looks to be much more popular over the 88r.. Will adjust my list accordingly.. dg
