Not so; since you don't usually notice or find out about this crap until you've already wasted your money!
Think about the folks who early on plunked down the extra $6,995 for the Sony pkg..

Don't know why you'd even consider getting a smaller surface area speaker to adapt to the 6"x9" area ?????

Just to share what I've done....
I had the 6x9 Kicker DS Series coaxes in the front for the past 3 weeks. Did not disconnect the column tweeters. Pushing this through a JL 300/4v2 with an AudioControl LC6i. Sounded better, but something was off, and there was WAYYY too many highs. Enter Focal PS 165F.... putting the Focal tweeter in the factory location. They... sound... awesome! Still running the Kicker DS 650s in the rear doors, and they sound fine back there. But yes... I went from a $55 speaker to a $550 speaker.... and not ashamed after I realize how amazing it sounds. Still sad that I'm spending this kind of money on a brand new truck because the factory stereo is so sad.
(302A non-Sony)
Also... make sure you don't switch phase on one speaker. I was getting ear and couldn't figure out what was so wrong.

I am still confused, so I hope someone can answer my question:
I also have a new 2015 F150 SCREW with non-Sony stereo + Voice activated NAV, 302A package and I was not happy with the overall sound quality, so I played with the treble and midrange levels and then added a Kicker Hideaway 8" sub and the sound quality greatly improved. My question is this:
If I replace the factory door speakers with high sensitivity Polk DB 691's & DB 651S's without adding an amp being solely dependent on the head unit's power output, will I clearly hear a real difference in sound quality or not over the factory speakers or would I be wasting my money?
Since the Polk's are rated @ 93 db & 92 db respectively, I figured they would work fine even @ 7W per channel or so output, but Crutchfield says they will not work well due to the low power output of the factory head unit since they require a minimum of 10W! So, I would truly appreciate any valuable input since I got what I believe is a good deal on the new speakers if I want them, $85 for the DB 691's & $65 for the 651S's! Thanks in advance for your help. Jeff

Why don't you believe what the Crutchfield told you? He advises people for a living. You don't have a clue. Get the Polk's and an amp for the doors speakers and be done with it.

1) Crutchfield does not even have the specs for the 2015 F150 in their system as they are still showing 6x8 speakers in all 4 doors as in the 2014, so how accurate is their info?
2) The owner of the audio store where I was purchasing them has 45 years audio experience and he says that will work fine and are far superior to the factory crap!
3) On a couple of other blogs, a few 2015 F150 owners actally installed the Polk DB's and said they worked fine BUT then added an amp, so I was hoping that one of them would chime in!
So, I am still trying to assess whether or not there will be a real material gain in quality WITHOUT adding an amp!
