I may ditch SYNC, all I really want is quality BT calling and the Mic in my 2014 has worked pretty well thusfar (the Mic on my wife's HU is terrible).

I do need to read up more on how this will affect the clock above where the HU will go. I've read how it shows time 2 hours off or funny things like that with different PAC or idatalink adapters. This is a bit more involved that the other HUs I've replaced, so I need to do some more homework.

Thanks again for sharing very helpful!
If you don't keep SYNC you can use a simple wiring harness and SWC harness. You will have to use the mic provided with your new HU.
I have only heard of the clock being off on one install. On my 2011 it was just fine.

No problems, and yes if you ditch synce you will just not connect the connectors. I have "built Ford tough" on my stock screen all the time but have heard others have DVD, etc. mine is a 2010.

Great thread.....
I have recently purchased a new '14 STX Sport, and am looking to upgrade my HU as well.....
After some long evenings reading posts about this, I am planning to bite the bullet and go with 4Dtechs set up and the OEM NAV.
Just because I want to keep all my functions in tact.

Hope to hear how things come out on your upgrade..... Please send photos as well...

I installed the Advent OE system last weekend and so far everything works great! Would highly recommend it for anyone. Costs a little more but it retains everything mentioned in this thread with no additional components needed. Also looks damn near stock!

I will certainly post updates and maybe add some pictures when I get to it.

As for now, tax season is upon me so I likely won't get to it until Mayish.

For now (unless I change my mind), I'm planning on getting a 3rd party double din HU (undecided on which atm, I'd REALLY like an Alpine, but pretty spendy) with a dash kit and conversion unit to preserve the steering wheel controls but not SYNC, probably 4x Inifiniti Kappas, a 4 channel Planet Audio amp, and backup camera/sensors.

I also may, while I have everything torn apart, see if I can add an auto-headlight on/off sensor, I LOVE the value for what I got in the STX, but that feature missing is driving me batty =]
