2013 XLT head unit?
Thanks to how horrible the steriio was on my $42,000 truck, I'm new to messing with car audio. Will there eventually be a reasonably priced way to replace the head unit on these trucks, or will there just be custom designed very expensive HU's available? It seems 3 or 4 hundred will get you a nice HU for most standard Vehicles. Will that eventually be a option, or is the Ford design just too integrated?

It depends on your definition of "reasonably priced". Advent will have an OE look replacement in what I would guess as the $1000-1300 price range. That is just my guess.
Metra just released a dash kit (@$300) and the wiring harness (@ $250). You need to add a head unit to that.
If the new '15 F150 dash departs from the 13-14 design, aftermarket limits will likely stay the same.

Reasonable for me is about $500 for a new head unit. Looks like I'm going to be stuck with the stock head unit. 1,300 bucks for a audio upgrade isn't in the cards, especially when I've already dropped $700 on new speakers and a sub. Looks like by the time you're done with the metra kit, you're well over a grand too. I'd rather intake, exaust and program it if I'm gonna drop that much money. Aftermarket speakers and a small sub have made a huge improvement over stock. I'm just going to have to be satisfied with what I have for that kind of cash.

First step would be to upgrade the stock speakers and see if that will be enough for you.
When I started my upgrade I drove around for a couple of weeks with just the speakers replaced with some I had sitting around in the garage for a few years. Serious difference.

Metra Kit
The Metra kit IS NOT worth the money. Basically you have to keep the small SYNC screen down low and replace the head unit with NAV down below. It sits to low in the center stack. Not to mention your 2013 **** and selectors look nice and the Metra kit makes it look like a basic work truck.
