I called the Ford help line. Kid didn't even know what an ipod was. That is my storage for music and it works in our two other vehicles so whatever has gone wrong is in the Ford Sync.
Anyone been able to get an update for this thing? I keep getting the error message.

Ed, That link seems to be about iphones and updates on those. My iphone works fine with the sync, at least the bluetooth, pandora, music come through just fine.
My problem is the sync all of a sudden will not recognize the ipod through the usb port. It is the original ipod (newer 160gb) that I keep all my music on. I don't understand how the ipod would be affected by the update of the phone but I an NOT a technology genius.
I'm the person who says to our IT guy when he says, "Did you turn it off and then back on?" Why would I do that? Technology is great when it works.
Appreciate your help and referrals to links. Putting a new system in my daughters Subaru over easter weekend because their system is not phone friendly either so going aftermarket. Probably what I will do very soon and just not rely on the Ford system.

iDatalink makes a dash kit that looks and fits factory - and the companion box called the Maestro that ties an aftermarket HU into the truck's system and lets you keep the wheel controls. With the right radio, you can even pull some diagnostic data and display it to the radio, which is a BIG help for things like tire pressure. Truck's computer KNOWS the individual tire pressures, but Ford didn't bother to design the displays to show them!
