Default Speaker Recommendations?

I have a 2012 SCREW with Nav and the Sony premium sound. ALL I want to do is replace the factory door speakers with better speakers. No I do not want to replace the factory HU or get into reinventing the wheel…… It's a money issue and I actually like the factory unit. Has not given me any issues…….. I do not want to get into adding an amp at this time!

Just want some decent speakers that will not require a bunch of modifications to wiring or mounting holes.

Any input is appreciated……….. KISS!

I know you said you dont want an amp but if just get a 5 channel small amp, that will increase mids, highs and bass response. If you get aftermarket speakers basically will sound the same. The amp will bring out a loud and clean sound from your sony system. I did it to my FX 2 and love it. Hope this helps.

What's the cost of such and amp? What's involved with wiring and installing it? Can I keep all keep the factory functions and wiring? I do not want to cut and or splice wires in the factory set up. Want to keep all my factory options with the current set up….. Any advice is appreciated……..

you are going to have to do some wiring. Go with one of these amps. they make some of the smallest amps i have seem.

Your Sony setup is a low wattage system.. The only way to get more clarity and a better sound would be to add the 4/5 channel amp. The replacement speakers are going to cost depending on what quality you want.. Still a pretty clean install with minor wiring and harness additions..

You will have to do a little wiring as the amp kit will habe to be wired from your amp to your factory speakers. I recommend that you look on crutchfield.com for a 5 channel amp which can run you around 250 to 350 dollars depending pn the brand and 35 for the amp kit.

Check these 2 amps out on crutchfield.com

Just chiming in here, because I'm just now thinking of upgrading my system as well. I upgraded the system in my 2011 F-150 with a 5 channel amp, speakers, subs, etc. and I used a PAC 24 interface which I wasn't too pleased with. I had a lot of noise and chatter when listening to the radio, none when listening to the ipod and other sources.

Anyway, since my question is related to the OP's question (not trying to hijack the thread), what type of interface will be needed to add an amp to my current 2013 F-150 with the Sony/Nav/Sync system? That would be my biggest sticking point since I am keeping the factory head unit and want to keep all factory functions.

There isn't an interface that will plug and play like the PAC24 yet. You will need to hard wire the amp in.

If I was in the same position as you guys, I would buy a 5 channel amp with high inputs, interrupt the speaker harness output, goto the amp with those wires and then wire the output right back into the stereo harness and call it a day. If you need to, replace some speakers after.

I know many consider it taboo to cut wires, trust me, no one will be checking when you trade the vehicle in and put the stock equipment back.

You do not have to install an amp for better sound. Yes it is better but an amp is not required. Since the factory HU is low wattage, look for speakers with a high efficiency rating. 90db or higher. Polk and Infinity are good. It depends on your budget. I used my factory HU and Polk speakers for over a year. I did add a subwoofer for better low end later. Since then I installed a aftermarket HU but still do not have an amp. Look at Crutchfield.com to see what fits and for reviews.
