2013 F-150 Sony Subwoofer Direct Replacement
Hey Guys and Gals, I'm new here so forgive me if this has already been answered but I think I may have found a solution to everyones problem with the Sony Sub. I have been looking for a direct replacement that I can replace the sony sub with no rewiring for just a tad extra bass output and I think this may work:
Kicker 40CWRT81 CompRT shallow-mount 8" subwoofer with dual 1-ohm voice coils
This subwoofer has a shallow mount depth of 2 5/8" and dual 1 ohm voice coils. I know the sony sub is dual 1.2 ohm voice coils so before I pull the trigger and order this, does anyone think running this at 1 ohm vs 1.2 ohms will damage/fry the stock amplifier? It may even pull some extra power out of the amplifier. Thoughts?

thats the one i have as well. I dont think by adding a different subwoofer will help out. The more you turn up the volume the crappier the sound comes out. Its not that great of a system might as well go all aftermarket.

The Sony sub isn't the problem, it's the whole sony stereo...

Did you measure the sony VC at 1.2 ohms with a meter or is it advertized as 1.2? If you measuered it, I bet you'll find that Sony lists it as a 1 ohm DVC sub. Many 4 ohm subs actually measure 3.x ohms.
I'm pretty sure there are threads on that partucular sub here, so you may do a search for the model number. I bet it will work.

The real question is what the Sony sub is wired up at, its final ohm load.
A sub with dual 1-ohm voice coils can be wired to either 0.5 ohms or 2 ohms. You'll need to measure the resistance to find out.
