2013 4.2 screen powered amp install help
Hi,
I hope to find the easiest way to add a powered sub to my existing 4.2 radio. I'm really a noob at this. I know the 2013 with a 4.2 screen has a different way of adding an amp (tapping the speaker lines or something like that), as opposed to the previous years (with the lci or something like that ) . Can someone more knowledgeable please simplify exactly what is needed to add a powered sub to the truck? Thanks in advance

Then you also need whatever powered sub you want to use.

I've been reseaching this to put a system in my daughters car. Here's what I know that might help you. You need 2 things to put a sub in your truck with the stock radio, a sub and a digital signal processor.
I'll start with the DSP. The stock radio lowers the volume of the base frequencies as you turn up the volume. This is called roll off. The digital signal processor cancells out the rool off. JL Audio makes an inexpective one, model JL CL SSI.
Next you need a sub. You have 2 couple of choices. You can buy a speaker and abox to put it in and an amp to power it. Or what you probably want to do is buy a powered sub. That's a self contained unit with everything preassembled. There are several choices. I'm looking ar a Sound Ordnance B-8PTD. There are others. This sub can be mounted under a seat or behind the back seat in your truck. If you google b-8ptd in an f150, several forum posts will come up from guys who have installed them.
A good information resource is Crutchfield. You can go to there website and lookup equipment for your truck. They have great customer service reps who can really help you decide what you want. I'd call and talk to them. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I did end up talking to a Crutchfield rep. He studs a dsp wouldn't be necessary for the sound ordinance, but I'm not sure how much they know about our trucks specifically. Thanks for the input.

I would suggest you try it without the DSP first. You will be amazed at the bass you have without one. I used a single 10" with an Alpine sub amp and was able to move the bass control on the HU back to 1/2 way. That also helps by not driving your door speakers into distortion.
