2012 Screw Speakers, amp, and sub?
#11
This is going in a Screw, not a regular cab.
I've never heard the Hertz speakers in person, so I can't really compare the sound.
King_Nothing, what would be your suggestions for a sub?

Sorry, The regular cab talk wasnt directed at you. It was for KILOFINAL because he mentioned his regular cab. Hertz speakers SLAUGHTER anything by infinity, but cost ALOT more as well. How much space are you willing to give up and how much are you willing to spend on your substage? If you are willing to give up all the room onder your back seat I would look at the Fox acoustics dual 10 ported box with either sundown e-10s or sundown SD-2s. If you want to save some space there are plenty of downfiring prefab boxes that take up less than half of the space under your rear seat. Throw a sundown SD-2 10 in there and your good to go

It's all good. It was late and I misread/skimmed just before going to sleep.
I did start researching the Hertz speakers, and found a few reviews mentioning the the infinity speakers will cover more Lows/Highs, but can be weak in the Mids. Reviews of the Hertz speakers show them covering Low/Mid/High.
What would you recommend in Hertz speakers?
I'm going to hit a few stores this week also and see if I can get an earful of them, if anyone stocks them around here.
Appreciate the input.

Sorry about that. I didn't mean to change the subject of your Supercrew. I heard the Hertz speakers and they blew away everything I've heard in a long time. I've had Dynaudio in previous vehicles, but Hertz was very good. I'm willing to pay a premium for sound like that.

So, after some more research...
I looked into the Hertz and Focal speakers, and found that a good majority of them are rated at 4ohms. This brings up my next question:
2ohm vs 4ohm speakers for sound quality?
From looking at higher end speakers, as mentioned most are a 4ohm load, and from what I have read so far, sound quality will start going down hill as the impedance is lowered, thus making a speaker with an impedance of 4ohm, a better choice for what I am looking for.
Will this be a noticeable change to my ears? Probably/Probably not?, but if a build the system around a 4ohm scheme, I should be getting better sound.
This changes everything?...

The resistance noted for the speaker does not effect sound quality. It is merely the load that is presented to the amp. On an of that is able to run 4o and 2o, it will supply more power to a speaker running at 2ohm. Not sure where you heard that from, but I would stop listening to that person.

A 4 ohm speaker COULD sound better than a 2ohm speaker. Your amp will have higher distortion number into 2ohms. At higher volumes you are pushing your amp pretty hard into 2ohm. Will it be audible? Probably not, but it would be measurable

I'm probably just over thinking this setup for the normal everyday ride (actually, maybe twice a week ride, as I'm lucky to live so close to the job, I just walk or ride my bike).
I had started researching "2ohm vs 4ohm car speakers", and just dove in...
I did go back and read the forums that I was reading about distortion, and realized they were discussions on competition forums, with articles about getting down into the 1ohm and less realm, where as mentioned, the difference would be measurable, but for the "average Joe in his daily driver", this really isn't something that needs to be considered, especially in my case.
Anyways, I think I have this somewhat finalized:
Stock HU
AudioControl LC7i - For converting factor signals, summing the output of channel 3 to a subwoofer channel, and the AccuBass feature.
Precision Power PPI P900.5 Single amp to supply the entire system
Infinity Reference 6830cs for the front speakers
Infinity Kappa 682.11cf or Infinity Kappa 682.9cf for the rear? The 11's have no dongle while the .9's do. Performance should be roughly the same either way? The 11's make installation easier being that I don't have to worry about the dongle... Opinions?
Subwoofer: JL Audio CP208LG-W3v3
This is a preliminary choice, and not too pressing at the moment, as it won't happen for a month or so. I'm also considering just buying a pre-built enclosure. The FoxBox looks pretty clean and for $180, it's not a bad deal at all, especially since it will be a direct fit and I'm not concerened about using all the space under my rear seat. I could also build my own enclosure since I have the shop to do it.
I did go and find a shop that has the Hertz speakers and they do sound great, and I would purchase them over the infinity speakers, but I'm not looking to spend that much on this system. As mentioned, I drive it maybe twice a week, every couple weeks to events a couple hours away, and every few months on vacation (a few hours across the state). So I find it hard to justify (in my mind as feeble as it is ) spending all the extra for something that I will not enjoy/get use out of on an everyday basis.
In the end, I'm sure I'll be happy with the parts I've selected. I've had infinity setups in the past, and was always pleased with them.
