Build complete (for the moment). A heavy dose of PolyFill was the cure for the sub. Ignoring the Preset 1 and Preset 2 settings, I chose Custom HU, and tuned there. I did zero out the timing settings. System sounds really good!!!

The sub could be better and I may build another box, or get a different driver.

Needed to add spacers for the door drivers. They were barely hitting the window mechanism. 1/4" MDF fixed that.

I am hearing a low hiss at low volumes, mostly on talk radio. that could be from the cheap RF amp. Not sure. It's not as bad as it once was, and for the moment, it's totally bearable (for now).

Thanks to everyone for all the help!

Whelp... Building yet another sub box.

I've taken my sweet time before starting 'cause, well frankly, I haven't had the time, and two, the first sub wasn't sounding horrible. But it wasn't what it should be. It was bearable. I expect this new box and design to thump hard! ::fingers crossed::

By my calculations, I'm at 1.13 cuft. This huge for a sealed box that was supposed to call for .65. That small of a box simply didn't sound good. My OLD box was .9 and it was pretty good. WinISD says "go big or go home!" So, I maxed out the size and I'm expecting good things. We shall see. If it doesn't sound good, the enclosure size is big enough for me to port.

I should have it done in the next day or so. As you can see in the pictures below, it's all but done. Just need to seal some interior joints, sand, and install the driver.

I used 4ga wire. I had it laying around and I thought, what the hell. Give it a try.

Anyways... there's my update.

Sealed it all late last night, and made a silicon ring to use as a gasket. i didn't want to silicon the driver in, as it's always a b i t ch getting it out, cleaning, and reinstalling. I figured this driver would have to come out a few times.

This morning, in all of 10 minutes, I threw the sub in. Installed in the truck. It still needs a ton of sanding. It's huge! I'm not sure I like that.

SQ: I don't know. It does seem better, but still not where it should be. I'm going to tune the DSP differently and see if I can't better performance. i'll also take this sub to the shop and have them test it on another system.

I still have to mess with poly fill some more. After that, I'm not sure what to do next.
If it is the sub + this enclosure, then I may just get a 12" slim and drop it into the first box I built. I enjoyed building this box, but I'm just not getting the results I was expecting, yet.

Suggestions?

Check that.

i did some tuning on the DSP, AND... i pulled one RCA.

Wait, "pulled one RCA"? "Guinness, what do you mean?" lol

The amp feeding the sub is bridged for 250w rms. In that mode, only the left RCA jack is used. somehow, I had an RCA jack plugged into each L & R, and therefore, the amp sensed this and didn't bridge. So, i was getting like half power. Pulling the RCA and boom, insta-bass! (Not quite sure HOW it sense it, as the other end was not plugged in. The DSP only has 1 out for sub. Anyways...)

After some messing with crossover, Q, and db, the sub frickin' SLAMS!

FINALLY! after all I've been through, I got this system screaming. I'm very excited!

I'll post final pictures soon.

Well... now I'm not as certain it's all set.

Some tracks sound and 'feel' amazing. Others are either OVERLY bassy or underwhelming. I understand that not all tracks sound the same, bass wise.

I had a good hour long drive last night and was able to listen to many tracks. I noticed strangely that at one point I questioned if the engine tones were counter-acting the sub tones, thus nullifying them. They just seemed to be lower when i was giving it gas at say 2,000 rpm. But maybe that was just in my head.

Also at times it sounded 'over-dubbed' for lack of a better word. The kick sounded manufactured and not realistic.

I think I'm going to bring it all to my local shop and drop in different drivers and see if what difference that makes. This RF sub was GREAT in my last set up, but I haven't been able to replicate that. I do remember having to change the crossover from 50 to 80 and visa versa for certain tunes. With my current set up, I don't currently have two presets with different crossovers set up. But, easy enough to do, just haven't done it.

Another choice I have is to port this sub. Still would need to determine diameter and length, but if it turned out horribly, I could just seal the hole.

Thoughts?

Done.

I think I mentioned I stuffed in a bunch of poly fill. I was immediately able to tell it sounded worse. Muddy.

So, then I went the opposite route: I removed most (not all) of the poly fill. Know what? It's sounds very good. I buddy here at work is now jealous.

While the box is indeed big at 1.13 cuft, it is fine. Fits nice and snug under the seats. Still need to bolt it down. Would hate for that sucker to fly around the cab if I was in a bad accident. It weighs a ton. 3/4 MDF, 34 x 8.5 x 13 x 6.5

Anyways... I'm happy with it.

Thanks for all the help/input for this install/build.

I know this post is a little old but I'd thought I'd throw this out there about your bass being all over the map. I don't know if the H660 is summing the sub output or not. If it is not you need to use a Y between the RCA's and the amp. Otherwise you are only getting the bass off of the one channel. If the recording as the bass panned to the side you're not using you'll loose signal. Not may recordings in my experience do this but maybe it's part of the issue or maybe it's just cancellation like you are thinking.

Thanks for the write up. I just picked up an '11 and am in the planning stages of my install.
