Default 2010 F-150 XL Radio Replacement

Thanks in advance to anyone who is able to offer some help.

I've recently replaced the stock stereo (Single Disc CD Player, no Sync, no Sony, no Nav) with an after market stereo in my 2010 XL. My understanding from reading other threads was that the External Temperature and Compass reading in the center information display (just above the radio) should still work despite removing the factory unit. However, after replacing the stereo, all I get now is "F150 Built Ford Tough". Have I screwed something up, or am I wrong about being able to retain the Temp/Compass output in that upper display?

It sounds like the XL is different than the XLT. Nothing you did wrong.
