my opinion. wire it back through the speakers and a power an ground. you should be set. no need for adapters

You do much installation? This will work but isn't the correct way to do it.
If the DVD is setup for wireless headphones, go that route.

I install all of my own and friends. everything from head units to subs you can hear a mile away. haha. DVD player is different for me though. not sure how the headphones would work

Good. You don't want to run power(sound) from one amp(dvd) into the same speakers of another amp (Factory HU) without some sort of switch to block the others signal. Most aftermarket DVD systems are setup to be used with wireless headphones.
The adapter that they are talking about is for using a factory DVD with an aftermarket HU. Not the other way around.

That's what I'm not sure about. if I were to put aftermarket it would be it's own whole unit. I wanna do some research an see how to wire my factory one for just headphones cause I have a touchscreen DVD in dash. rear would b for kids

Factory what? If you have a factory DVD it should have come with headphones or you can buy some

Just hook power and ground up to the aftermarket DVD. You don't need to do anything else.

the factory rear DVD runs off a can signal, not what a nornal radio does

It plays through the speakers if set the radio to a certain station. It is an aftermarket Myron & Davis system
