Default 1999 f150 4x4 double din

OK so I looked at the '97 to '03 audio basics. Good info! what I would like to know in addition is: what would be a good HU with single CD, droid capable blue tooth (mostly for hands free phone), siruis radio and back-up camera capable? aux input would be a bonus. I understand I may have to do some dash surgery.

Stick with the major brands. Kenwood, JVC, Pioneer.

Then your choices are huge. Are you wanting double or single din?

Default update

I went to my local electronics shop and purchased a pioneer 3600BHS. nice unit. Added Sirius and was very pleased with the new HU and its capabilities. only problem was it didn't sound any better than the stock unit. So I went back and purchased 2 pairs of JVC CS-V6837 6X8 speakers. Installed them and guess what....it don't sound any better.

while installing the new speakers it became apparent that somewhere along the line there was a sound system with an amp and sub. the rear speaker wiring had been cut into and had a IEC AULOC wired in.

while installing the head unit I saw no evidence of tampering with the harness. In fact the aftermarket plug and harness worked out fine and LR is LR, LF is LF, etc.

the rear speakers sound like they are under a pillow. which is exactly how they sounded before the new HU and new speakers.

the front speakers sound about the same.

So here I sit, around $500 later, with a system that sounds no better than the old one. pardon my French but WTF?

my question is: where should I start looking? is it possible there is a crossover or resistor hidden somewhere?

I've had the backseat back out and there is no amp or wiring there. Nothing under the back or front seats.

I'm stumped.
