Hi all, signed up to join the community and find good info on my upcoming purchase...

I will be buying a no frills 2WD used F-150, probably 2004-2007.

I have a concern about gas mileage. It looks as though the V6 and smaller 4.6L V8 get the same gas mileage. Can I get some unbiased opinions? Is that true?

The V6 is probably gonna be cheaper, but why not get the extra power if they consumer an equal amount of gas???

welcome, i'm also a no frills guy. can't help much on the v6 vs v8 mileage but i would say get the 8. you'll be happier towing/hauling.

Welcome..Go ahead and get the 4.6v-8. It actually gets better mileage. I average 17 and have got as high as 21.5

Welcome,

I'd go with 05 on the V8 engine. My Dad has a 1998 F150 XLT 4X4 with the V6, and its a "DOG", plus I get better gas mileage with my V8 4.6L and get the same MPG as NGM.

Welcome to the show!!

I'd have to agree with the 8 over the 6. From what I've read the 8 gets better MPG then the 6.

Don't know if this helps but I had a 98 ranger v6 4.0 and it only got 13-14 mpg.

Welcome and great luck with your truck!

If you can get the same gas mileage out of the V6 and 4.6L V8 then definitely go with the V8. You'll need that extra power because these trucks aren't the lightest things out there on the roads.

Goose, why the '05 4.6L over the '04? Did Ford make big changes between the years? Do you not like yours?
