Default Radio problem

Just picked up an '03 F150 w/extended cab at an auction. The power on the radio works, the CD and tape players work but nothing else works on the radio. I can't change the station, set the clock, advance the CD, etc. Didn't get an owner's manual so I can't even check to see if all the fuses are in. Am I missing something or do I just need a new radio?

Welcome to the site!! The people who had it before you might have pulled the radio out and may not have connected all the wiring harnesses correctly. Before going out and buying a whole new radio I recommend pullling the radio out and seeing if all the wiring harnesses are plugged in.

Thanks Triton. I will try that but before I do, I notice some fuse slots open so I am wondering if there is a second fuse that may be missing. How many radio fuses are there and what are their location #'s?

I'm not sure how many fuses the older F150s had for the radio.

The way I understand your statement is that ONLY the buttons aren't working?? I'm not sure if there's a fuse for the buttons but I'll check.

Go here to down load a copy of your owner's manual.

Thanks for the link to the owner's manual Transmaster. It is defenately helpful.

In the meantime I took the radio out as Triton suggested and noticed one of the two harnesses has four black wires and one striped wire coming from it but the black wires are capped off. Only the striped wire gets connected to the radio when the harness is plugged in. I am assuming this is the switched power source. Could it be that one of the black wires should be hardwired to direct power? Anybody have a wiring diagram?
