Unhappy what causes

Lately my 1993 f150 6 cylender auto pick up truck feels like its not getting enough gas, dosnt have power when push down the gas petal, kinda whats to stall very lightly but dosnt. no problems with shifting gears/ or stopping/ starting.it just feels mopey when I am driving down the road. The mechanics thinks it might be the fuel filter but( some dont agree) is having a hard time getting the casing off and the dealership says that the hoses cant be replaced cause of its age. It had a new fuel pump put in two years ago so its not the pump. This truck has a few miles to go before it hits the 300.000 mile mark and I never realy had any problems with it and I dont want to get a new truck until the engine falls out of this one. Anyone have any ideas as to cause. Thanks alot

First, welcome to the site. Always glad to see the owners of the older model years coming on-board.

Not sure what is meant by 'getting the casing off'. At any rate, if you can't recall the last time the fuel filter was changed - it's probably a good idea to gitter dun.

As far as "hoses can't be replaced cause of its age" - suggest that "can't" means only that someone doesn't "want to" bad enough. If the fuel filter is suspect, why is the level of difficulty going to alter whether it really needs to be changed. May have to go back with a non-OEM setup as far as fuel lines and filter if the original equipment replacement lines can't be had, just be sure that any mods are rated for fuel-injection-level line pressures - 50psi or so.

While the fuel filter would be my first suspicion - don't rule out the fuel pump, fuel rail pressure regulator, kinked fuel lines, or fouled fuel pump pickup screen. If you can't figure out what it is, starting ruling out things you know for sure it's not.

If the 'check engine' lamp has come on other than during starting - suggest to get the codes pulled - further on down the list of possibilities for your situation is that it's not even a fuel problem.

Glad to see the number of miles you've got - yet another testimony that we have great trucks, and the 4.9L is a very long-lived engine. Good luck, and keep us posted on what you find.

Thank you very much Wde 3477 for such a quick responce. Yes the check engine light comes on half the time and the fuel pump was repleced not to long ago. I will give these ideas to the mechanic monday. I call it a casing because it looks like a 4"x4" square black box under the drivers side by first gas tank.
