Newb with questions
Now in the market for a 4X4 truck.
So I'm looking here for some advice.
Needs:
4X4
Long Box
Here's the questions..... What would be the best choice???
Seems that something in the 2004-2006 model year range seem to be in the pricepoint that I'm looking at.
4.6L.... 5.4L... Diesel...
With the economy the way it is there are a LOT of these available all over the place, so some pointers of what to look for while I'm looking at trucks would be greatly appreciated.
I live in Ontario, Canada, and I just bought a house in a rural area, and this truck will be used to work, to haul stuff, and do some towing.
It'll have to be able to tow a 3000lb racecar, and a 4600lb classic at times.
Will not be doing any serious off-roading but it will see some duty in snow, light mud and grass. As well as driven on the road of course.
I'm looking to get into the truck in the next week or so.
Once I've made the purchase I'll be back with a lot more questions as I'll need to do some modding to make it "Mine"

Well first. Welcome!
2nd - If your going to be towing ALOT, go get a diesel.
3rd - If your going to be towing few times a month, get the 5.4 it will be fine.
4th - DON'T get the 4.6 since your going to be hauling stuff and towing. You'll regret not getting the 5.4.
5th - Depending on what you want, reg cab long bed, Extended cab long bed, or 4 door long bed.. up to you.
Any other questions let us know.

Thanks for responding so quickly.
It will most likely be the extended cab long bed. i don't need the 4 doors, unless an excellent deal came up.
I am leaning towards the 5.4L
Are there any common "gotcha's" that I should know about, and any particular areas that need special attention while looking at the available trucks?

I don't know alot about the "problems" but the spark plug seems to be a big deal. Breaking off.
I'll go find a thread that you can read through.

You can read through this thread. Or go look at the 2004-2008 truck thread and search in there.

Something like this would be great:

Diesel, Long Bed, 4x4, Standard Transmission. XLT. Three-quarter ton.

Well it took a few weeks to find the right one, but I've finally got it.
Purchased a 2005 XLT extended cab, 8' bed, 4X4.
Got a great deal, but it will need a couple of things, and I'll be doing the norma bolt-ons first (CAI, cat-back)
First... Looking for some tire reccomendations.
Size & make. (not lifting or lowering the truck, will stay at stock ride height) Also staying with the factory 17" steelies for now too.
Needs to be a good road tire, with abilities to work in some light snow & mud etc...
Second... Handheld tuner.
Diablosport Predator? SCT? other?

Good find!! 295/70/17 Nitto Terra Grappler tire would be my recommendation... Fit on my 05 Crew stock rims and stock suspension... Great in snow I have read... Here they are on my last F150...
I would go custom tuned SCT, you wont regret it!
Welcome aboard!
