New owner of a mistreated 1999 F150
Friend of mine had a 1999 F150 that was used by his employees (cleaning company) and it was abused pretty badly. The motor and tranny are sound, the frame and body are fine (some rust and dents from abuse, but no major accidents), but a lot of other "stuff" needed work.
He just bought a house and a new F150 (well, financed them anyways), and could not afford to do anything with the 1999 (and didn't want to be bothered with it). I figured I could use something to haul crap around on occasion, so I told him to give me the truck and I would put the money into it to get it fixed.
Brakes (pads and rotors) all around, various u-joints, half shaft, rear end work, A/C compressor, etc. Will pick it up tomorrow for a bill of $2500.
Next thing up is to clean the cab. His employees were pigs and there is a slimey film over everything...and the cloth seats and carpet are nasty (no stains I can see, just really dirty). And the whole thing smells like cigarette smoke. Fortunately, he owns a cleaning company so he is going to steam clean, treat with various chemicals, etc to get the interior tolerable.
There is also a crack in the windshield, but I'll probably wait till spring to replace that...want to make sure I don't have any mechanical issues with the vehicle over the winter.
Anyways, just thought I'd introduce myself. You won't see me winning any truck of the month awards...I took this on mainly because I could afford to fix it, saw some value in owning a truck, and wanted to help my friend out.
