New Member with a Strut Issue
Bought a set of Bilstein 4600 series struts for my 2010 F150. I intended to have the dealer install them while my truck was being serviced, but they said that I needed to provide strut plates because the OEM struts had non-removable strut plates. I don't have much strut experience, so is this correct, and if so, any recommendations on what I should get?

I just checked the plates on the stock ones I have laying in the garage from my 2011 and they didn't budge after a knock with a hammer. I replaced all four corners on my truck with the Rancho RS7000's and they came with the plates for the front. Don't quote me on it but maybe the 2009 might have had removable ones that you can use on your shocks so maybe you could post in the classifieds to see if someone wants to sell their stock plates? Or call Bilsteins customer service as you aren't the first I've read running into that problem, so I'm sure they can steer you in the right direction. Good luck.

Ok, here's an update for anyone with a similar issue...took my truck to the local truck accessories shop. They easily removed the OEM struts, swapped the mounting plate to the Bilsteins, and reinstalled. As a bonus, they added a 2" ProComp leveling kit without charging for extra labor, so I ended up getting more parts/work done for roughly the same price Ford was going to charge for the strut swap only. For once the dealership being a pain paid off. From what the truck shop said, the OEM struts have "putty" on the plate to prevent rattling, which makes removal difficult after a while, but not impossible as the dealership stated.
