Default New. I want to drop a 302 in my 01

So I have a 86 thunderbird with a 302 with a hot cam and some headwork.... I love this engine and I recently got to thinking it should be in my 01 F150 instead. I was just wondering if any body has done a swap like this. My main questions would be

1) Since my engine currently in the F150 is fuel-injected I'm guessing when I drop the carb'd 302 in I might as well scrap my computer and nearly all of my engine harness.... any body now specificaly what? I won't be even obdI compatible since I won't need o2 sensors.

2) What kind of manual tranny works good with this setup? Will the lightning's do?

3) Will the driveshaft bolt right up or should I look into getting this done at a shop?

4) I have a mustang positrac rear end in the 86 thunderbird sooooo.... can this be swapped in the f150? If not will a lightning rear end swap and if so does lsd act the same as positrac?

Well as you can see I still have a lot of research to do into this little brain bubble but any info at all would be a lot of help. Thanks guys-

no i beleive it's older than that.... it came from a stang but it's not the boss... that's all i know off hand but i can find out. All that's important about this is that it's carb'd and a small block. Oh, i just got cfi and efi.... no the 86 t-bird came with the efi 302 the 2.3l 4cyl turbo (my t-birds original engine) and the 5.0 I beleive... or maybe that IS the 302. Anyway, no the engine was a swap into the t-bird.

Not trying to be a jerk (its comes naturally) 82 and 83 mustangs were 2 barrell, the 84 was the 4 barrell. Not sure about the 85, it could be a 4 barrell also. What ever, am not the right guy in altering from the original installations. Never had the money to gamble on stuff like that. Guess thats why I can live in the Vegas area, I don't gamble. Good luck and talk more later.

Well it's got a two barrel. The amount of modifications done on this eg. high compression pistons, bore, custom ground camshaft, aem intake manifold, positrac rear end, not to mention the fact that it's mated up to the turbo coupe 5spd with drive in bushings in first through third make me beleive that this engine is a real gem i would love to have in my f150.

The original engine in the t-bird was a turbo 2.3l so what year the engine in my bay is doesn't matter to me. Hell, I'm going to throw a 4 barrel on later anyway.

Thanks for the info though I wasn't aware of that. I guess it helps me pin down what year it is. But whatever year it is I want it in my truck!!!! Lol I think it would be sick but I'll have to do some research into how much work and fab this will be.

Welcome to the site and good luck if you do decide to swap. Anything can be done with the right amount of $$ and patience.

If you do the swap, it won't pass emissions inspections.

All right thanks guys. Yeah, I've had this truck a while and I love it. This site is new to me. I plan on keeping my truck whatever happens. Anyway, I know a guy that can get me through the smog test. I live in Houston and we do safety inspections. I just think the v6 needs to go.
