New F-150 Owner
Hi Everyone,
Just purchased my first F-150 this past Saturday.
I'm a do it yourself kind of guy so I figured it would be a good idea to join the forum and get involved. It's nice to have a place for advice when stuff breaks. So hey, looking forward to being a part of the community.
Been looking for an F-150 for about 2 months but it was hard to find exactly what I wanted. I wanted a pre-1996 because i think they look bad-*** and it was the last year that they made the 4.9L straight-6 which I've read is one of the most reliable Ford engines ever made. Also wanted a 5-speed manual and 4 wheel drive. After a lot of Ebay, Autotrader, and Craigslist I finally found my truck in State College, PA. One owner. Garage kept. Everything works. Came with a tonneau and cap. 110,000 original miles. It's absolutely beautiful.
The 3 hour drive home was good. Figure I'm getting about 18 m.p.g highway which is a little worse than the Miata I just sold haha. The day after I bought it I wanted to test the 4X4 in my Dad's back yard and got it stuck. He was pretty pissed off and the yard is a mess. I spent the rest of the afternoon leveling out the ditches and planting grass seed. I think I need to buy bigger tires. Can anybody suggest something with a little more tread that won't kill my m.p.g.?
Also bought a new radio and some speakers but that's all the upgrades for now. Just enjoying the great ride, solid build, and awesome looks. Looking forward to being a Ford owner for a long time.

What are you wanting your truck to be a daily driver or an offroader. have owned many 4.9's and have had almost no issues. you could go with a 3 or 3.5in lift and go with a little bigger tires and stay on stock rims and do some mild offroading with out killing you mpg. 18mpg highway is about average i have been able to pull 20 to 21mpg in my old bronco with a 4.9 and 4spd just depends on how much pedal and rpms you like to use. You found a great truck take care of it and it will last you longer than you think
