New Canadian (Ottawa, Ontario)
Hi Folks!
I... I'll be honest, didn't expect to be here. I've never been a truck guy (except for a brief period in high school, when a brand new 1989 Chev Stepside 4x4 was the coolest thing ever, that I couldn't afford: also, I'm old) so this was not a decision that came easily.
However, my wife and I had a hand-me-down 2005 Forester, that we picked up for $2000CDN five years ago, and as it hit 200,000km, the brake lines rusted out. On further inspection, I decided that even if I wanted to replace the entire braking system (the bleeder screws were all rusted solid, and the other lines were in the same condition as the one that exploded), I didn't really want to spend 3 weeks on my back in the garage, in February, in Canada.
So, shopping began, with a wide list of vehicles that might suit our purposes, from VW sportwagens to the F150, and almost everything in between. Two weeks ago, we had it narrowed to the '17 Honda Ridgeline, and the '16 or '17 F150. Which is when we realized a] we were compromising on space and b] Honda were completely unwilling to deal - MSRP, interest rate, or extras.
So, suitably unimpressed, I started looking at local dealers stock, especially on 2016's that were discounted. I found one at Lincoln Heights in Ottawa, who are wonderful guys, and we tested it, and liked it. Sitting down to talk numbers, the guys there were more than willing to negotiate, and a few grand more came off the already aggressively discounted sticker.
At which point, we ended up with a 2016 F150 XLT 4x4, with both the extra XLT packages, Nav, and Sync3. And, of course, the 5.0 V8.
The only issue I have at the moment is the Sync3 V1.0 vs V2.0/2.2, which I emailed the dealership about, and they're going to upgrade me on Saturday (tomorrow), as they did sell the feature to me, specifically.
Would you like some pics of the truck? Of course. I know how forums work. More on that in a moment.
I alluded to the fact that I'm familiar with forums. I've been active on the Genesis Coupe forums since 2009, when I bought my 2010 Hyundai Genesis 2.0T. I've modified it over the years, slowly, with a track/agility goal in mind. It's seen the Tail of the Dragon, and Calabogie Racetrack in Ottawa.
Quite a difference, eh?
It's also staying, as I still turn and look back at it when I park it.
And that's me. I tend to be active locally, but less so online. The genesis (and now FRS/BRZ, and Xterra) crews in Ottawa use my driveway fairly regularly, whether it's to hang out and have a beer, or work on their cars. I'm no pro, but I'm a pretty good shadetree mechanic.
You might have guessed, I'm at least playing at being a photographer, too. Whether I'm good or not is completely subjective.
So, Hi! Always good to meet new folks, virtual or IRL.
